NEWS
Our March Madness show certainly lived up to its name! We were slidin’ in the snow. In spite of the weather, it was a great show! The Derby was great…..loads of talent! Congratulations to Gene Jernigan, riding KSU Slidin Shiny Kid, on his Non Pro Derby win.
Also, congrats to Judy for not passing out! Missy Hood on Whiz Good To Go was reserve. The Open and Intermediate Open were won by Chris Ferguson, riding Dun It At Starbucks. Fred Berschauer, riding “Smartie” (One Smart Request) won the Ltd. Open and was reserve in the Int. Open.
Andrew Fox, aboard Check This Dun It was reserve in the Limited Open. A big Thanks to all of our Derby entries. Not only do we appreciate your participation……you made it exciting to watch!

Whiz Good To GoAs with any show, the people behind the scenes are the ones who “make it happen”. Once again, a huge Thank You to our VP, Cindy Johnson, for all she has done and continues to do to make our shows happen. Cindy and Sheryl Strathman managed to put together all the “prizes” that everyone seems to love to win! Also, thank you to all of the KRHA members who volunteered their time to help with the show. Although it was cold and nasty, people seemed to “cowboy up” and dealt with it! It was a bit disconcerting to be riding in the warm-up pen with snow blowing in your face!
Thanks again everybody! Let’s “git ‘er done” again in September! Have a great show season.
What is Reining?
Reining is a judged event designed to show the athletic ability of a ranch type horse in the confines of a show arena. Often called the “Dressage” of Western events, the Reining Horse event is the ultimate blending of horse and rider, combining speed and maneuverability through a series of intricate patterns.Reining is the most recent addition to the United States Equestrian Team. This is partly due to the excitement that Reining provides for the participant and spectator alike. Across the country Reining events are drawing larger and larger crowds to the premier events. In NRHA competition, contestants are required to run one of ten approved patterns. Each pattern includes small slow circles, large fast circles, flying lead changes, roll backs, 360 degree spins done in place, and exciting sliding stops that are the hallmark of the reining horse.
